Greenbrae, CA (July 5, 2017)Bon Air is sparkling for summer with a refresh that is dramatically revitalizing the community hub. While the look is new, Bon Air’s mission remains the same – steadfast commitment to local, specialty merchants who serve the community with more than 50 family-friendly restaurants, businesses and essential services in the heart of Marin.

The refresh reflects the changing way Bon Air guests shop, dine, exercise, learn, relax and generally interact with a more modern retail experience. The revitalized Bon Air reflects and embraces these changes and better serves the communities surrounding it.

There are many exciting refresh highlights below, and more exciting news on the horizon with the much anticipated opening of Gott’s Roadside, fall 2017.

Expanded walkways, seating areas and fire pits

Bringing that sense of “breathing room” to Bon Air, pathways have been expanded using pavers, with additional relaxing, playing and gathering spaces that include al fresco dining tables with chairs that are shaded by market umbrellas in bright sunlight and warmed by fire pits on cool nights. Free WiFi is also available throughout Bon Air, giving visitors the option to stay on the grid for a working coffee, lunch or dinner meeting.

 

Children’s Play Areas and “Friends”
Locations: Directly across from Road Runner Burrito; directly Across from Loving Cup and Victoria Bakery & Cafe

The two Children’s Play Areas provide safe exploration of very local trails blazed from soft resilient matting surfaces, eco grass and a “clubhouse,” that allow kids to linger a little longer while parents enjoy beverages and conversation. The play areas are enclosed by hand-woven willow fencing, with benches, critters to play on and bridges to crawl across and under. Tucked throughout Bon Air are kid friendly stone sculptures including a bunny, otter, turtles, acorns and more.

 

Inspiring Water Features
Locations: Directly across from Papa Murphy’s, Peet’s Secret Garden, Orangetheory Fitness and Wells Fargo Bank

Bon Air’s water features capture the essence of Marin County’s calming tranquility and the inherent beauty of the land. The eco-friendly recirculating fountains use recycled water – peaceful with a purpose – they help keep Bon Air Greenbrae “green.” The surrounding all-weather Adirondack chairs, in various sizes, offer a comfortable place to gather.

Bon Air GREENbrae: Bioswales, Natural Landscaping and Date Palms, LED Lighting
Locations: Everywhere

Designed to be drought tolerant, the new landscaping features native plants. Bioswales, also known as rain gardens or storm water planters, collect runoff from nearby paved surfaces including streets, all roofs and sidewalks to drain into the Bay after natural filtration. Six majestic, twenty-foot date palms have been planted along with smaller palms, and LED lighting is replacing the existing lighting.

Backyard Bocce Court
Location: Directly behind Peet’s Coffee, adjacent to the fire pit seating

A Bocce court provides fun for all ages with plenty of seats for spectators. Players may bring their own balls, or kindly request to borrow a set from The Ranch Salon.

Local Design Teams

Lead architect for Bon Air’s revitalization project is Max Crome, of Crome Architecture (San Rafael), working with general contractor Willie McDevitt of McDevitt Construction Partners, Inc., (Petaluma). Cordy Hill, of Royston Hanamoto Alley & Abey (RHAA, Mill Valley) provided direction on landscapes and hardscapes with James Goodman of Goodman Color (Stinson Beach) serving as master colorist.

Tapping the Marin-based creative design team of Richardson Clark Design to assist in developing the visual brand, Bon Air unveiled a new logo that reflects a modern, sophisticated yet approachable feel that also provides a sense of place and a nod to legacy – 65 years serving as Greenbrae’s gathering place.

The new brand identity is visible in signage throughout Bon Air, its expanded outdoor gathering spaces, as well as its new website and social media platforms that provide real-time information on public events and ease of navigation for information on shopping, dining and services.
